Product Review – Serac Hammocks

Lounging is a big part of many of our trips, regardless of how active they may seem. So it’s only natural that we have amassed a well-stocked arsenal of outdoor lounge gear to fit our lifestyle. We recently decided to test out a couple of Serac hammocks, and took them on the road with us to Minnesota, Yellowstone, and New Hampshire. After logging some serious hours between the trees, we can safely say that Serac hammocks are an excellent value for a very solid product.

Price

The major selling point of these hammocks is that the price point is very reasonable. The Classic Single goes for $39.95 and the Sequoia XL Double goes for $59.95. Both of these include straps whereas with many other brands, the straps are sold separately.

Sequoia XL Double

The single is the perfect size for one person, although if you really want to, it’s not unreasonable for two people to fit. The double is more than spacious enough for two. Both hammocks come with 6 ft straps which are long enough for most areas with plenty of trees; however, if you find yourself needing longer straps, you can buy those separately.

Set up is extremely easy and only takes a couple of minutes. Basically you just throw each strap around a tree and clip each carabiner which is attached to each end of the hammock into one of the loops on the strap. Even though the set up process is so simple, they can easily support the weight of multiple people. We had two adults and a 4 year old swinging around in the single for hours and there was never any doubt that it was safe.

The hammocks pack up tightly into the little pouch that is attached to the side, and are light enough and compact enough to easily throw into a backpack. We haven’t tried out hammock camping just yet, but when we do, the hammocks will be a significantly lighter alternative to lugging around a tent.

Overall we have been extremely pleased with both of our Serac hammocks, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a low cost but durable hammock.
