Highest Point in Kansas

Highest Point in Kansas – Mount Sunflower

Located just a few miles from the Colorado border in Wallace County, Mount Sunflower serves as the highest point in Kansas with an elevation of 4,039 feet. While the name suggests a prominent peak, it is actually a gradual, nearly imperceptible rise on the High Plains, situated on a private ranch owned by the Harold family. The site is a popular destination for “highpointers” and features a unique iron sculpture of a sunflower, a covered wagon, and a registry box where visitors can sign their names. Interestingly, because the state of Kansas tilts upward from east to west, this “summit” is nearly 3,300 feet higher than the state’s lowest point in the southeast.
