Highest Point in Mississippi – Woodall Mountain

Located in the northeast corner of the state near the town of Iuka, Woodall Mountain stands at 806 feet above sea level. It was originally known as Yow Hill but was renamed after Zephaniah Woodall, a local sheriff. During the American Civil War, the hill served as a strategic vantage point during the Battle of Iuka in 1862. Today, a gravel road allows visitors to drive directly to the summit, where a stone monument and a series of benches mark the spot. The “mountain” is part of the Appalachian foothills, and while it is modest in height, it offers a distinct change in terrain from the flat, alluvial plains of the Mississippi Delta.
