Tallest Mountains in Italy
Italy is home to some of the most spectacular topography in Europe, anchored primarily by the massive arc of the Alps in the north and the Apennine spine that runs the length of the peninsula. The tallest peaks are concentrated in the Western Alps along the borders with France and Switzerland, featuring the legendary massifs of Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) and Monte Rosa. While many of these giants are shared with neighboring countries, they remain central to Italian mountaineering culture and the country’s diverse landscape, which ranges from the jagged limestone of the Dolomites to the volcanic heights of Mount Etna in Sicily.
The following table lists the top 20 tallest mountains in Italy by elevation. Note that many of these peaks sit directly on international borders.
