Tallest Mountains in Illinois
Illinois is not known for its mountains, as indicated by its nickname (the “Prairie State“). Its claim to fame is Chicago, one of America’s greatest cities. That said, there are a handful of “mountains” that at the very least clear the 1,000 foot threshold. The following table ranks the top 5 tallest mountains in Illinois. As you’ll note, none of them are even called “mountain”, and are rather called “mound”, “knob, or “hill”.
Charles Mound is the highest point in Illinois, standing at a rather unimpressive 1,235 feet. It sits directly on the border with Wisconsin.
