Tallest Mountains in Indonesia
Indonesia’s list of tallest mountains is dominated by the mountains of Papua (Western New Guinea). Because these mountains are part of the Sudirman Range, they are considerably higher than the volcanic peaks found on Sumatra or Java.

Puncak Jaya is not only Indonesia’s highest point but also the highest island peak in the world and one of the “Seven Summits.” Despite being located near the equator, it contains several small glaciers, though they are retreating rapidly. Outside of Papua, the landscape is defined by massive volcanoes like Mount Kerinci (the highest volcano in Indonesia) and Mount Semeru, which is the highest point on the island of Java and one of the country’s most active and dangerous volcanoes.
